Kappan Discussion Group Thursday, April 20th
at 7:30 pm
Location: JoAnne Lafever’s apartment, Yang Ming Shan
Christian School, # 84 Ln 80 Zhwong Ding Rd, Shihlin.
This time we chose a two page article from the Research section
of the September 2005 Kappan on three topics: "The Indian Spelling
Gene" (which talks about why so many Indians are winning the
spelling contests) "How Mean is the Median" (on the subject
of how we arrive at our grades, and which is the best way?) and
"Boys named Sue" (How the choice of a girl's name for
a boy could have consequences on their behavior). Hopefully one
of these topics will interest you and spark some good conversation.
Has anyone seen the movie "Spellbound"? Carol will try
to get it and we could watch a short episode.
You can find the article by logging into the Members
area of the PDK International
website and going to the September 2005 Kappan. You will also receive
an email with the link. Citation: Gerald W. Bracey, RESEARCH: “And
Now, the Indian Spelling Gene?,” Phi Delta Kappan, Vol. 87,
No. 01, September 2005, pp. 92- 93.
Please let Ralph Whalen (ralphw@tas.edu.tw) or Dave Wittry (wittryd@tas.edu.tw)
know if you are able to attend so that JoAnne can prepare refreshments.
Those who live in Tien Mou can car pool, leaving the TAS lobby at
7 pm. Ralph and Dave Wittry have volunteered to chauffeur us, and
if we need taxis, PDK will pay for the shared taxis.
The meeting is for PDK members and guests who are interested in
joining. |
